This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Electrical Engineer, High Voltage based in the United States. This role leads the technical execution of high-voltage and medium-voltage electrical systems across utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects. You will own critical engineering decisions from early development and interconnection through financing, construction, commissioning, and operations. The position combines substation and collection system design, power system studies, field troubleshooting, testing, and reliability engineering. You will work closely with EPCs, engineering firms, utilities, ISOs, vendors, and internal teams to deliver safe, compliant, and cost-effective infrastructure. A key part of the role is diagnosing complex system events and turning root-cause findings into targeted upgrades, retrofits, and performance improvements. This is an opportunity to influence the reliability and operational performance of a growing portfolio of renewable energy and storage assets. Accountabilities: As Electrical Engineer, High Voltage, you will provide technical leadership across HV substations, MV collection systems, transmission interconnections, and electrical infrastructure throughout the project lifecycle. Lead the design and technical review of HV substations ranging from 115kV to 500kV, transmission interconnections, and MV collection systems from 34.5kV to 480V. Direct EPCs, Engineers of Record, and engineering consultants to optimize designs, reduce execution risk, and maintain schedule and cost objectives. Own utility interconnection activities, including application reviews, steady-state and dynamic models, and technical negotiations with utilities and ISOs such as CAISO and ERCOT. Troubleshoot system events in the field, including relay operations, misoperations, nuisance trips, and equipment failures. Conduct root-cause analyses using relay event reports, oscillography, substation SCADA data, equipment diagnostics, DGA, infrared inspections, and insulation testing. Define and implement electrical upgrades and retrofit projects, including protection setting changes, control system tuning, equipment replacements, and design corrections. Support NERC and regional regulatory compliance, including PRC requirements and applicable CAISO and ERCOT standards. Partner with Operations to resolve ongoing technical issues and optimize fleet performance and availability. Develop and maintain engineering standards, technical specifications, EPC exhibits, and testing protocols. Witness and evaluate factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, commissioning, and energization activities. Support EPC RFPs and equipment supply agreements by defining clear and enforceable technical requirements. Contribute to Independent Engineer diligence activities and project financing processes. Coordinate cross-functional efforts to resolve permitting, regulatory, engineering, and technical constraints. Requirements: The ideal candidate brings extensive high-voltage engineering experience in utility-scale renewable energy, strong knowledge of power systems and protection, and the ability to solve complex electrical issues from design through operations. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required; a Master’s degree or PhD is a plus. 8+ years of experience leading technical scopes for HV substations, particularly 345kV–500kV systems, and MV collection systems up to 34.5kV within an IPP, EPC, or engineering firm. Proven experience managing EPCs, consultants, vendors, and cross-functional teams throughout the project lifecycle. Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose plant and substation issues using relay data, SCADA, inverter logs, plant historians, and equipment diagnostics, and drive corrective actions through implementation. Strong knowledge of major power system equipment, including operating principles, failure modes, testing, and troubleshooting. Deep understanding of HV/MV equipment, protection and control schemes, metering, substation SCADA, and technical trade-offs involving cost, schedule, and performance. Strong working knowledge of NERC PRC and MOD standards and applicable regional requirements, including CAISO and ERCOT. Solid foundation in power system studies and electrical modeling. Proficiency with steady-state modeling tools such as ETAP, SKM, DIgSILENT, or similar platforms. Advanced Excel skills for technical and financial analysis. Familiarity with NEC, NESC, and IEEE standards. PE license preferred. Working knowledge of PSSE, PowerWorld, and PSCAD is preferred but not required.
