Department: FIN | Student Financial Svcs Oper Department's Website: Summary of Job Duties: A Lead Student Service Specialist is responsible for coordinating and overseeing complex student financial aid processes while providing guidance and support to students, families, and institutional stakeholders. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations through the accurate processing, verification, awarding, and disbursement of student financial aid. Responsibilities include reviewing financial aid applications and supporting documentation, processing verifications and professional judgment requests, monitoring student aid databases, and ensuring timely and accurate awarding and disbursement activities. The Lead Student Service Specialist serves as a subject matter resource for financial aid policies and procedures, responds to inquiries from prospective and current students, parents, faculty, and staff, and assists in resolving complex financial aid concerns. This position also supports operational efficiency through daily monitoring of aid processing activities, collaboration on special projects, and participation in professional development opportunities to remain current on evolving federal and state regulations. The role contributes to student success by helping students understand and access financial aid resources while ensuring compliance, accuracy, and exceptional customer service throughout the student aid process. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or plus five (5) years of experience in federal student aid processing or Associate's degree plus seven (7) years of experience in federal student aid processing or High School diploma/GED plus nine (9) years of experience in federal student aid processing required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Workday Student experience Proficient in Microsoft applications. Responsibilities: Oversees daily management of two SFS staff members and the processing and awarding of student financial aid according to federal and state regulations. This is accomplished by obtaining the appropriate legal documentation, collecting required forms, gathering the necessary information for completing the application, and inputting all the information into the appropriate financial aid student database(s). Monitors the various databases to ensure financial aid applications are processed accurately and within the required timeframe. Oversees two SFS staff members and review/signs off on the processing of federal student aid Verifications. Prepares Title IV Return of Funds calculations. Reviews the requests for Professional Judgment. Processes private loan applications. Reviews and clears student aid disbursement rosters daily and for each College Registration cycle. Provides the optimum amount of financial aid to every student while operating within the constraints of federal and state regulations and available balances by monitoring the various student financial aid federal, state, and private databases for available student financial aid funding. Attends professional development conferences on an annual basis to stay current on regulations. Responds to inquiries via telephone, e-mail, and/or in person from prospective and current students, parents, and administrators concerning the processing and awarding of financial aid. Assists with special projects and other duties as needed. Interacts with and assists the public in a professional and friendly manner as needed. Demonstrates effective communication skills; communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary. Demonstrates positive working relationships with co-workers, management team, and ancillary departments; follows the Core Concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care and the Basic Code of Conduct Guidelines.
