WHAT YOU WILL DO: The Legal Assistant II performs complex to highly complex legal assistant work in the Office of General Counsel. You will provide comprehensive support to litigation and program attorneys across multiple agency areas. Serving as a key organizational partner, you will track litigation progress, draft and proofread legal documents, conduct legal research, and gather case information. This role requires exceptional accuracy, strict adherence to statutory deadlines, and compliance with confidentiality laws. Legal Assistant II works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO: - Gather facts and seek documentation from internal departments to coordinate case management. You will compile necessary records to ensure attorneys and decision-makers have the information they need for litigation, discovery, and program matters. - Manage the full lifecycle of comprehensive lawsuit files in compliance with records retention schedules to help monitor litigation progress. - Draft and proofread pleadings, briefs, certified records, and other legal documents, ensuring exceptional accuracy and adherence to strict statutory deadlines. - Support attorneys handling program administrative appeals and related matters. - Review agency pleadings, motions, and discovery requests for factual accuracy and alignment with TWC policy. - Conduct legal research and verify citations, quotations, and footnotes for proper legal formatting. - Facilitate communication between attorneys and program staff to align deadlines and produce routine correspondence (such as records requests and status updates). - Provide backup support to other legal staff on matters involving Unemployment Insurance (UI), Tax, Texas Payday Law wage claims, and Subrogation. - Prepare routine statistical, administrative, and legal reports, studies, and indexes. YOU QUALIFY WITH: - Two years of full-time experience in legal assistance work. - Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.
