Position Summary Vertiv is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of next-generation Static Transfer Switch (STS) and Power Distribution Unit (PDU) products used in mission-critical power and data center applications. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex design challenges, collaborating across functions, and driving products from concept through production. You will use 3D CAD and PLM tools to develop innovative, manufacturable designs while partnering with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and testing teams. The position offers exposure to new product development, product enhancements, prototype validation, and advanced power infrastructure technologies. Based onsite in Delaware, Ohio, this role provides hands-on involvement throughout the product development lifecycle and the opportunity to make a visible impact on products supporting global customers. Roles & Responsibilities Lead mechanical design activities for new products and product improvements Develop 3D models, engineering drawings, and bills of material Translate product requirements into practical and manufacturable designs Manage engineering releases and product documentation within PLM systems Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve design and manufacturing challenges Support prototype builds, design verification, and product testing activities Review simulation results and apply findings to optimize product performance Create customer-facing technical drawings and documentation Coordinate with suppliers and internal stakeholders throughout development projects Support manufacturing and production teams during new product introductions Identify opportunities for product, process, and documentation improvements Required Qualifications (Knowledge & Experience) Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3+ years in mechanical design, product development, or new product development Associate degree with 7+ years in mechanical design, product development, or new product development Design and development of commercial, industrial, electrical, electromechanical, or manufactured products New product development from concept through production release Proficiency with 3D CAD software and mechanical design best practices Creation of engineering drawings and bills of material PLM, revision control, or engineering change management systems Interpretation of technical specifications, drawings, and engineering documentation Collaboration within cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams Skills & Abilities Strong mechanical design and problem-solving skills Self-directed approach with strong ownership and initiative Effective management of multiple projects and priorities Strong verbal and written communication skills Clear presentation of technical information to diverse audiences Strong organization and project coordination skills Hands-on support of prototype builds and product validation Flexibility to work in laboratory and manufacturing environments Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% Preferred Knowledge & Experience Power distribution, critical power, switchgear, switchboards, power electronics, industrial equipment, or data center infrastructure products Creo, Solid Edge, SolidWorks, or similar CAD platforms Electrical enclosures, power systems, or electromechanical assemblies UL, NEC, IEC, or related industry standards Model-Based Design (MBD) Prototype validation, thermal analysis, or design testing Three-phase power systems Sheet metal design, busbar design, cable routing, or wire harness design Manufacturing support, production support, or new product introduction activities #LI-DS1 Vertiv is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of next-generation Static Transfer Switch (STS) and Power Distribution Unit (PDU) products used in mission-critical power and data center applications.
