Principal Product Management – Software and Digital Platforms The Principal/Sr. Principal Product Manager for Software and Digital Platforms (SDP) is a senior individual contributor responsible for defining products, translating market and business needs into executable requirements, and driving alignment across business units, engineering, and program teams. This role serves as a technical and commercial bridge between vertical end-market teams and the SW, Digital, and AI development teams. Key Product Management Responsibilities: Partner with business unit marketing, engineering teams, and customers to translate business needs for SW, Digital, and AI either into stakeholder product requirements, focusing on the “what” needs to be built and the “why”. Define product scope, use cases, feature priorities, and requirements for software and digital platform offerings, ensuring requirements are technically sound, validated with engineering, traceable and verifiable through delivery. Work closely with software, embedded, systems, and hardware engineering teams to refine requirements, resolve tradeoffs, and ensure products are architected for usability, scalability, and reuse across multiple markets. Contribute to roadmap planning and prioritization for software-enabled products and platform capabilities, balancing customer demand, strategic value, technical feasibility, and resource constraints. Develop business cases and support project scoping, including assessment of development effort, cost considerations, lifecycle implications, and long-term platform reuse opportunities. Clarify the product lifecycle from concept through launch, support, and end of life, ensuring clear plans for release readiness, sustaining needs, and customer adoption. Engage directly with customers and internal stakeholders to gather insights, evaluate product fit, and shape product direction based on application needs, feedback, and competitive dynamics. Partner with program management and development teams during quarterly planning and execution cycles to provide clear priorities, decision support, and visibility to roadmap changes, risks, and dependencies. Influence platform strategy by identifying opportunities to standardize software components, improve developer experience, and expand reusability of embedded software and digital assets across product lines. Collaborate with vertical business unit applications, marketing, and enablement teams to ensure product requirements, positioning, documentation, and customer-facing collateral accurately reflect the intended value proposition and technical capabilities. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with vertical BU applications and engineering teams to ensure early customer experience, evaluation flows, and product readiness considerations are incorporated into product plans. Work with embedded software and systems teams to understand architecture decisions, development tradeoffs, and validation needs in order to make informed product decisions. Support go-to-market readiness by aligning product documentation, evaluation platforms, and customer-facing collateral with roadmap commitments and launch objectives. Help drive issue resolution and prioritization across development, applications, and support teams throughout the product lifecycle. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related technical field; advanced degree or MBA is a plus. 10+ years of experience in product management, systems engineering, applications engineering, or a related role supporting embedded products. Demonstrated experience managing or defining products that include embedded software, firmware, or software-enabled hardware platforms. Hands-on understanding of embedded software development practices, software lifecycle considerations, and the interaction between firmware, drivers, middleware, hardware, and end applications. Experience translating customer and market needs into detailed product requirements and driving cross-functional alignment through execution. Strong technical and business judgment, including the ability to assess product tradeoffs, prioritize features, and contribute to business case development. Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence engineering, business, and customer teams without direct authority. Actual wage offered may vary depending on work location , experience, education, training, external market data, internal pay equity, or other bona fide factors.
